No us in the Dining Room.
Very Disappointing for 'suppose' Luxury Hotel
The greeting we received from John on reception was the highlight of our visit (apart from the location).
My wife has years of hospitality experience (management) and to say that we were disappointed is a huge understatement.
Where to rooms are badly in need of refurbishment. Bedroom carpet stained and dirty. Room smelled stale.
Very restricted menu choice and to be the told that items were off the menu was just quite pathetic. Restaurant staff 'allowed' us to wait while they finished their non work related conversation.
We were pointed to our table rather than shown. Table was stained and sticky.
The items we requested were off the very restricted menu (both starter an main).
I did not receive my starter as it was off the menu and I was not offered an alternative.
Standard of food in the restaurant was very poor and certainly in no way can be deemed as gourmet.
Staff require to refresh their customer service skills as they are very sadly lacking.
I would like to add that we were upgraded! I dread to think what we would have been staying in if not.
We checked out straight after breakfast as did not feel inclined to prolong our stay any longer. We did not inform the staff of our disappointment as we were never asked if we enjoyed our stay, they don't seem to care.
Please do not waste your money on staying at this establishment, you would get much better value for money at travel lodge or similar.
I wanted to call the whole experience s*** but my wife wouldn't let me!

HILLHOUSE
Of the elegant architecture that encapsulates Helensburgh, Hillhouse is certainly one of the most well-known. Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1902, the house offers a timeless elegance. The gardens have been restored to their former glory, and reflect the innovative architectural features common in Mackintosh creations. The exhibition in the upper east wing pays further homage to Mackintosh's avant garde designs and to those of his wife Margaret Macdonald, who contributed numerous fabrics seen in around the house. Entrance is free for National Trust Scotland Visitors.

HIGHLAND GAMES
For those seeking a truly Scottish experience during their stay; the Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games take place in early June. The event, which has run for over 100 years, offers a traditional Highland Games including Scottish 22lb shot putt, highland dancing, heavy events and hill runs. This level of athleticism is hard work, so there are a wide variety of food and drink stalls to refuel. A kid's marquee, coconut shy and haggis throw is more than enough to entertain even the fussiest of children.
