Not quite four-star

Lovely building and location. For a top level room strangely no air- conditioning or safe. The breakfast on each morning was awful - poor choice of cereals, (uncovered), poor choice of fruit,only sliced bread for toast (no other bread choices), croissants and pastries on partly covered trays with flies crawling inside (staff admitted they have flies and could do nothing!) The Yorkshire cooked breakfast comes prepared from the kitchen - well cooked but massively oversized and therefore wasteful. Very slow service - blamed on short staffing for which we have some sympathy.

The Keep

1 night stay for 2, including evening meal, breakfast and access to Spa.
Good customer service and friendly staff. Simon Hotel Concierge could not do enough, very professional and highly commend.
Room booked into was in The Keep - a separate building a good (quite hilly) 5 minute walk from main Hotel Building. Not suitable for elderly to walk to and from. A courtesy shuttle service was provided by hotel concierge, but at times had to wait some time for this to be called to the Keep from main Hotel. Not good when going for breakfast and/or evening meal or to visit the Spa at set and booked times.
Room on arrival did not have robes in for spa, had to call housekeeping. Also main mirror in bedroom above dresser/desk was smoked with no light, not fit for purpose. Also no catch on patio sliding door on to balcony, so had to sleep with door completely closed/locked so room stuffy and warm without air on on. This was hard to sleep with as air on unit quite noisy.
Restuarant - evening dinner, great menu and choice, excellent meal, thoroughly enjoyed.
Breakfast also good selection and choice of Continental and Full English.
Overall a nice and enjoyable stay, regardless of the above few issues.
