Relaxing stay

We had a great two nights in a fancy room in The Keep. It was second floor which is better as it was very private - no need to have curtains closed all the time (lower ground and ground open into walking paths so no privacy. Lovely to hear the sea when you wake up.

Very quiet relaxing place with nice staff.

The food in the restaurant was much better than I expected and the wine list was good.

Spa treatments were average - didn t visit the pool so can t comment on that.

Very good hotel and lovely food

Minus points: Some cobwebs in room and ensuite bathroom. Paint stains on furnishing in room, and in changing rooms at the spa. No hot tub. I would expect slightly higher standards for the money (it's definitely not cheap, even with the deal). The cauliflower "steak" I ordered was a steamed/boiled quarter of cauliflower. I would have expected it to be roasted or at least finished in the pan to give it a seared look. So I think attention to food description is needed.

Plus points: Lovely setting and grounds, nice helpful staff. Clean and comfortable room. Very nice food at breakfast and dinner, and service was good. Impressed with the sustainable ethos of the place. Comfortable bed (which was huge! - super king size) Nice experience in the spa too, where we had treatments and took advantage of the pool, sauna and steam room. Nice selection of refreshments in the room.

I would go back, but would expect more attention to detail. When you pay that amount of money, it needs to be spot on.

Disappointing restaurant

The reason for giving 3 for the restaurant is because of the number of dogs allowed in. There were 7 when we were having our evening meal, one making a terrible smell! If it is to be a dog friendly hotel then non dog lovers should be able to use a different dining room and, hopefully, be allocated rooms where there had not been dogs.
