disappointing start but improved
Luxurious hotel booked. Asked for a nice view as it was a special occasion. Was taken to a building about half a mile away from the main hotel. The room we were shown had a bed and old sofa table
with bare walls, and just outside the French doors was a 5 foot brick wall.
You had to stand on a chair to see the outside. which was mostly roof gutters . The person showing us told us the internet was poor there. The restaurant was in the main building and so was the spa.
After I had a walk to calm down I went to the main reception and said I was unhappy. That we had been put in a prison. We were asked to go into a lounge and the reception came back about 10min later to say they had an upgraded room. Which was loads better but still had poor internet. We managed with this. We were put in a restaurant away from the main restaurant. The spa was very good although the hot tub was out of action.(due to covid?) Breakfast was also in the restaurant away from main restaurant so you had to go through the reception every time you wanted a glass of orange juice or access the buffett. You did get waiter service for cooked breakfast. The next day we were able to go the the main restaurant. The hotel had lovely gardens and the staff were really lovely and very welcoming
Poor Restaurant
Everything apart from the evening restaurant selection was brilliant. Room, exceptional staff and environment
Staff need more training
Overall it was good. We had booked through luxury escape as we had a voucher and we paid the difference. However when looking to book spa treatments (which were all fully booked s month in advance) we realised that the uplift was nearly as much as the package we had booked. We booked afternoon tea on the Sunday afternoon and dinner at night. There was some confusion on the afternoon tea and we was told it wasn t booked ( the reception had confirmed we had booked this when we checked in) so we couldn t have this. The conservatory area needed a good clean but the rest of the place was spotless. My biggest feedback would be staff training, the staff were friendly but nobody seemed to be in charge and the service for getting drinks was very slow. Obviously the hotel is new and I hope these issues will all be sorted over time.
