  • Would stay here again

nice hotel but a bit more attention to detail would have made the stay memorable

William, Derbyshire, stayed: April 2025

we booked a twin room, but got a king size double bed. When showing our reservation (with the twin room clearly stated) we were told, we should have mentioned this fact beforehand.
Part of the booking was a welcome drink, which wasn't offered and we had to request it.
The table in the restaurant was booked for 18:30. We were told it was 19:00. But we could change this easily to our original time. The food was good and tasty but very expensive.
Breakfast was a bit sparse and the selection of any other items than a full English very limited.
I took the last Danish Pasty and they didn't bring out any more. Nobody asked if we would like more coffee. It is a bit awkward to ask all the time if there is more... But the poached eggs on Sourdough were very nice.

2 night weekend break

SH, Worcestershire, stayed: March 2025

On the whole we enjoyed our stay. Our suite was lovely, we were very comfortable and it was spotlessly clean.

Some niggling issues slightly spoiled our stay however. We booked a package which included dinner on one night of our stay and a welcome drink.

1. We were obliged to ask for the welcome drink as it wasn t offered.

2. After a long day travelling we didn t have much of an appetite for dinner, so we told the waiter we would use the dinner voucher on our 2nd night. This was refused, his manager said it could only be used on the first night. Despite pointing out to them this wasn t correct they refused to budge. Having checked our booking again i told the waiter that his manager was wrong about this. We received no apology and he said the staff could only work with what they were given!

3. On our 2nd night we had pre booked dinner for 6 pm. On arrival in the restaurant we were told by the waitress the booking was for 7;pm. After a good deal of huffing and puffing she reluctantly made a table available. It turned out that they hadn t actioned our reservation as they automatically booked us in for the same time as the previous night. Again, no apology was offered for the inconvenience.

It was a pity this happened as the food was excellent and the restaurant was full of character. I got the impression that guests were treated as an annoyance by the restaurant staff with customer service very low on their priorities.
