Room dissapointing
Our room was ok, untill we discovered 3 half chewed dog biscuits on tbe carpet. We talked to the duty manager who offered to change our rooms but as we had already unpacked and were only staying one night there was no point. Ho wever i asked him to pay for our drinks at the bar and we would say no more about it. I ordered a grand marnier and my husband a bailys, to be informed we were only entitled to a glass of wine and half a lager. This is not good enough as we are returning clients.
OK overall - some niggling problems
We stayed here for 3 nights in October. We were a party of four, comprising two elderly couples. One of the rooms was not very good. The bathroom was very small and difficult to get in and out, and one of our party, who is in her 80s, found she could not use the bath because of a lack of grab rails. The other room was acceptable, although in the shower it was difficult to control the water temperature. Again, no grab rails.
We were disappointed that our online request for dinner on the first night to be at 7pm was not possible, so we had to eat at 7.30 - not a huge problem. We had also asked for dinner on our last night to be at 7pm, but when we asked they had no record of the booking and we had to wait until 7.45. We felt the choices on the menu were limited and the menu was the same every night. Every night there were coach parties at the hotel and it was difficult not to feel that they took preference in maybe room choice and choice of dinner times.
Overall, we quite enjoyed our break and felt it reasonable value for money given that we had a 'deal' which included dinner on the first night. Personally, the fact that the hotel is large and has a lot of coach parties gives me the impression that the personal touch is somewhat lost and we are 'fobbed off' with second rate rooms. The 10 parking fee is irritating - residents should be allowed to park for free.
