We could not believe the price charged.
Although the shower room was small, the rest of hotel was excellent. The restaurant too was excellent.
We would definately stay at the Old Swan again..
Central Harrogate, old-time ambience and service
It's an old traditional style hotel. Sort of in a time that is deliberate. Absolutely nothing is old and run a comfortable stylish reminder of a pre-war hotel. That said, of course the rooms are up to date in terms of TV, wi-fi and a modern ensuite. The food was classic english fayre, not trying to be pretentious. Tasty for that. It is ideally situated for access to central Harrogate and indeed the Valley gardens just across the road. A little unfortunate that the lift was out of order for most of our stay. We are fit and sprightly, but we felt for those senior guests who were not particularly mobile. Three flights of high ceilinged stairs is quite an ask if you are having to rely on walking sticks. The hotel needs to review its lift maintenance contract for a 24/7 cover for the sake of the older guests. My only other slightly negative observation concerned additions to the bill. Over three days I charged four cups of coffee and two glasses of wine to my room. In the final reckoning, there seemed to be quite a number of generous service charges added on for these extras. The receptionist did point them out and offered to remove them, one at a time. It would have been better if the gratuities were less generous and less numerous in the first instance. It ought be up to the individual, depending on the level of service received. All that said, the overarching memory of our stay was very positive and if we are in Harrogate again, we would happily return to it.
