Enjoyable stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day break, which was marred only by the heatwave! Obviously it s an old building so no air con, and rooms were unbearably hot as windows didn t open very far. We did find an electric fan hidden in the wardrobe which was a huge boost. The room was very clean but the paintwork, carpets were a little tired, and the bathroom was a bit small. But the rest of the hotel was beautiful, especially the dining room. You definitely see how impressive it must have been in its day. The location was great, just a few minutes from town and a five minute walk to the train station. Staff were all really nice, especially in the dining room. Really the only issues we had were breakfast as most of the cooked items were very dry, the black pudding was virtually inedible. The service charge which was automatically added to everything. But the biggest issue for me was the charge for parking. We were aware of this when booking but I ve never known a hotel, with its own huge grounds, charge for parking as the local council are in control of it. I heard several guests commenting on it. We originally booked due the hotels Agatha Christie connection, and although we enjoyed our stay, I might think twice before going back.
A weekend retreat
It was a family and friends reunion, so I booked two double rooms. One was spacious however suffered from noise from the kitchen ventilation system. The other room was very small with an extremely narrow bathroom and didn t seem to be of a comparable standard. The housekeeping was excellent with clean rooms and towels each day. The sparkling wine in ice bucket on arrival was very nice.
The inclusive dinner was disappointing as steak had been taken off the menu leaving only two possible choices.
Apart from that the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The gardens with deck chairs out front were lovely to relax in.
A most pleasant experience
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were most impressed with the hotel and the staff. As we had not explored the area before we really enjoyed visiting other locations in the area and particularly a ride on the Skipton to Bolton Abbey heritage railway. All in all a most enjoyable couple of days.
