Winter break stay
We came for a 2 night stay. The room was well equipped, welcoming and warm, with a comfortable bed. We had no noise disturbance from other rooms or outside. Staff were helpful and friendly (the house cat was also friendly). The menu had a good range of choices and the venison was especially good. The main hotel is a really impressive building and even in winter the gardens looked well cared for. Another time I'd check first where the room was in relation to the dining room; with limited mobility for one of us, the walk to our room in a separate building (uphill), and the distance and steepness of the car park approach, cast a slight dampener. Not enough to put us off though.

Excellent value break
Despite the flooding in surrounding areas, the hotel was fine and we enjoyed our break.
Dinner service was slow due to a large party (apparently the BBC use the hotel for training/ conferences) but very good food when it was served.
Amazing value
Great Hotel very friendly staff and good food in the restaurant. Very good value for money especially as we were changed to a suite due to the inclement weather and had it as a room rate.
I would certainly stay there again but I think I would choose late Spring or Summer because of the cold weather we encountered on our visit.
