Good

SM, Berkshire, stayed: August 2020

We were upgraded to a bridal suite and the room was excellent
What let the hotel down was a friends steak was cold and sent back and was still cold, on the 2nd night he had a burger which was burnt and he sent this back, my wife's burger was cremated also.
However, my food was good.
The restaurant manager never came over to speak to us about the food issue which I felt was poor.
If the food had been better and the staff more welcoming it would have been a good place to stay.
The breakfast was very good and the staff on duty then were very nice and helpful.

Frustrating check in and not the standard expected. Great food though!

M H, Cornwall, stayed: June 2021

On the plus side I would say the food was superb and our non resident guests on the first evening were made welcome. After dinner we repaired to the bar which was rather luridly lit but we were able to find another comfortable lounge area to have a drink and conversation.
The grounds and view are very lovely and as we had pre arranged a trip out the next day the overall visit was successful.
Our greeting on arrival was a bit lack lustre and no attempt was made to show us to the Mews block or to help with luggage. As it happened it wasn't as close as this sciatica sufferer was led to believe and was up a hill. After 2 attempts I found the room up a flight of stairs but it was a double. I tried to phone reception but it was engaged so back down I limped. (It was also very hot). A manager was nearby and became involved. Once they had found us a twin room he said the instructions from Country Hotels was for a double room and would need servicing every day. (We never ask for this and it is not their policy under the Covid19 rules.) Talking of which the advance notification about Covid security was not adhered to in many respects.

The twin room had a depleted hospitality tray and no phone to order more items. I could not face the walk again so my husband went down and was given an emergency number. Room service arrived with biscuits etc which was handed to me and included tins water from Austria! (Why?)

3rd time lucky

DP, Buckinghamshire, stayed: December 2020

Having booked and made changes due to Covid, we were really pleased to finally be able to stay. The hotel is very nice and the staff are brilliant - very welcoming and cheery despite the awful situation at the moment.
It was unfortunate that we could not use all the facilities due to Covid - we missed not being able to have a drink in the bar or lounge.
The bedroom was nice, there were some plumbing issues (cold tap was not fixed correctly so was difficult to use). The decor could do with with freshening up.
We enjoyed our dinner in the restaurant and the breakfast the next day was delicious.
Overall, it was a lovely break for us.
