Just what we were looking for!

Martin, Lincolnshire, stayed: October 2023

We were looking for a relaxing indulgent few days away for the wife's birthday where she could relax and unwind and just enjoy time in the luxurious hotel. We chose The Wood Norton for its apparent character and charm, and chose one of the feature rooms for the same reasons.
We found a deal here inclusive of evening meal allowance, which overall we would say was value for money. Stayed Saturday and Sunday nights in October.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

The room, we had 'The Duc D'Aumale' room sited at the end of the side of the building, it was fully wood panelled with a large comfy bed and large ensuite with large walk-in shower and characterful mosaic tiled floor. It should be noted that the ensuite had a few minor maintenance issues [chipped tiling and lighting in the large mirror did not work], but these were very minor and did not affect our stay. The room and all areas of the building were extremely clean. There was air-conditioning, cleverly hidden under the bed which kept the room at a lovely temperature. I would however place a word of caution with this room if you are a light sleeper, as it is sited adjacent a number of large condenser units which against the quietness of night produce a very annoying low humming noise, against which the single glazed window of such a property offer little protection.

They held a wedding fair that weekend, which afforded us 'a nose' round the other feature bedroom suites, which are all stunning and very luxurious with some fantastic views!

The main building had equal amounts of character and charm, although again some areas, such as the snooker/games room were a little tired.

The restaurant was well worth using, and whilst we spent more than our allocated allowance you could eat well for the allowance given. We found the food quality was excellent and would fit in the 'gourmet' category, whilst also catering for simpler taste. There was a good choice of wine and it was reasonably priced with options, as we had by the glass [large or small]. I would say the menu remains the same with a good 5 or so choices per course and as we only stayed a couple of nights this was not an issue, if you stayed for much longer you may struggle not to repeat on choice
On our first night [Saturday] I heard some complaints that the service was slow, and I think that if we were only in a restaurant we may have been of the same mind, but there was a large party of guests celebrating an 80th birthday in the private 'Boardroom' function room, which will have stretched the restaurant team a little at peak time. The next night was less busy and no issues. I would say the serving staff, all young, were very good, stayed focused, said all the right things and did not get flustered. They have obviously been trained well, something we have found not to be the case at other large hotels since lock down.

The grounds are lovely and well maintained, and the property is well located for excursions to the Cotswolds, Stratford and Birmingham areas.

Overall this was exactly what we were looking for and we felt good value for money. Well done all at The Wood Norton. Look forward to seeing you again sometime.

The staff

Peter B, Herts, stayed: October 2023

The outstanding feature of this hotel was the friendly and helpful staff. Our room was not in the house but a converted building to the side. The room was ok, but not brilliant (electric plugs in hard to reach places etc.) The restaurant was very good, I particular enjoyed the starter.
