Devil in the detail
It is difficult to communicate exactly why this is just not a hotel we would ever go back to as the whole experience was showered with negative experiences. They seem small and nit picking individually but put them all together and we were glad we were only booked in for 2 nights. I overheard another guest say I feel like guest fodder til the real wedding season starts and frankly that s not an exaggeration. It was cold in both meanings of the word and was glad I paid for an upgraded room so at least we had a view and wasn t in an outbuilding. If you decide to stay and have a better experience ..good for you and don t forget there is a scrappy bit of paper on the booking in desk which we didn t notice or have pointed out to us with some hotel info on as there is nothing in the room. The Hotel has no formal feedback form or online guest survey which probably iis an indicator that they have a relaxed view to learning from customer feedback. We have stayed in a lot of hotels across UK since end of lockdown and particularly in Winter off peak season and have noted a real desire and pleasure to get back on the road despite often working with a skeleton staff. If you are thinking why didn t we mention something to staff. I did on check out but got a cursory response and glibly asked if I had far to travel home as if I hadn t said anything at all. If I have the energy I will write a detailed response direct to hotel manager and hopefully some self evaluation will take place. Also a restaurant that offers out of 5 choices fish and chips, burger and chips, chicken and chips, steak and chips wasn t what we,or other guests overhearing comments, were expecting. Also if any manager was actually walking the beat they may have seen and heard things from the guests perspective. A very nicely furnished bar area was also compromised by a member of staff sitting on guest side loudly conducting bookings and taking card details on her phone. Unprofessional, unrelaxing anf again felt like you were in her space.
Very poor visit
We booked and paid in advance with the inclusive allowance for dinner however the first night was awful. We had uncooked pasta to start with a watery lemon drowning, and unflavoured prawns. Both had steak for main which was supposed to be rib-eye but looked more like rump and tasted of iron, like a pigeon taste! The Amaone wine was very poor for the price. Therefore we couldn t trust eating dinner there the second night so had to forego the pre-payment and eat elsewhere. The manager said he would speak to countryhotelbreaks and get us a refund, this hasn t happened.
The Saturday morning there was no hot water and when speaking to reception they really didn t care. Other than the 2 bar staff working on the sat night the rest of the staff really didn t want to be there and didn t care for hospitality!
