Never Again
Booked a package room, 30 pppn dinner & 20 pn drinks allowance. Room allocated 309 in the PearTree Mews was not clean. Carpet was dirty, stained & in-vacuumed, light fittings full of cobwebs & dust, skirtings thick with dust, rusty pipe work. Bathroom floor sticky & when wiped with damp toilet roll came up black, floor behind wash basin & by the toilet was filthy. Dried bathroom products on the wall, stained ceiling & missing shower parts. Tea tray had stained cups.
We requested a room change which took an hour & a half to get sorted.
We were advised to pre-book a time for evening meals & breakfast which we did in advance, which were not met. First evening took an hour & a half to get our meal but when it arrived it was excellent. Breakfast we had to wait to be shown to a table as there were only two staff, waited 30 mins to get a hot drink and another 30 mins to get our cooked breakfast. Second evening meal we were asked to wait in the bar as no table was free even though we had booked. When we got into the dining room we had to wait for an hour & a half, which was quicker than some diners. Staff attitude was bad, didn t seem to care, not there problem . Once again food was excellent. Second breakfast was completely different from day 1, there was more staff & they were much friendlier, we just opted for continental after day 1 issues, but wished we had had a cooked breakfast. Felt as if we had missed out.
On checkout the receptionist tried to charge us again even though we had prepaid, then she said she had deducted afternoon tea & Prosecco when we didn t have that & wasn t in our package.
Overall not a great stay & very disappointed considering the price we paid. Would not recommend this hotel.
A bit disappointing
On arrival there was nobody on reception and then young lady appeared who addressed us as guys and carried on with this throughout registration. When we got to our room we were rather disappointed as the only views we had was of a rain stained wall and neighbouring chimney pots if you stood on tiptoe. I asked if we could have another room as this was our 51st wedding anniversary. I was told that we would be called in five minutes to let us know if another room was available. After half an hour I made another trip down to reception where other guests were complaining about their room so we had to keep the 'cell'. Dinner on both nights was an ordeal as the waiting to be seated, being given the menus and taking of orders was extremely slow. The same at breakfast. The food was fine but with an allowance of 30 pp it was difficult to have a starter and main within this budget. The toilet seat was broken and dangerous as it was secured on one side only and moved in use. This was reported but nothing was done during our stay. The room was very dark and I found a handbag in a drawer left by a previous occupant. I went to open the windows and the handles fell off. The bar was bizarre as the wallpaper depicted various species of fish!
Tired and not enough staff
Beautiful building and grounds but all a bit tired on the interior. Not exceptionally clean either. There were obviously not enough staff - there was a wedding held there on the Saturday and they obviously could not cope with that and the normal hotel services. Our room was not serviced and service in the restaurant was very slow that night. The bar were not able to mix a drink that my wife asked for because they had the wedding guests to attend to (this is verbatim excuse) which is not what you expect when you are a paying guest.
