A nice place that could be much better
Firstly all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The main house is interesting- if a little plain and dark inside because of so much oak. It has a rather bizarre choice of artwork, (maybe it just wasn t my style but it didn t appear to fit in).
Our room was in a side building and it was okay, but the furniture was dated and there wasn t enough storage or hooks, for a couple with a child.
The restaurant was nice for both breakfast and dinner and the food quality is good and it is well presented, but I would say that there is a lack of management/ quality control since it is not consistent. We had the same soup two nights running, the first was great, the second was like water and was promptly returned. Little details are often missed, I.e. the salt and pepper pots were absent on some tables etc., it is a shame really because it is a fine hotel that could be great.
DISAPPOINTING
Our room was okay but hardly any lighting - two bedside lamps and a free standing lamp, no ceiling lights at all. Toilet paper was literally a roll - no perforations.
Evening meal was very average - however, my wife and I ordered the same main course which was salmon. I have never ever been served such a minuscule piece of piece anyware. No exaggeration the size was two and half inches by 2 inches and a tail end which should not have been served at all. I drew attention to this after I had requested the bill so that they wouldn't think I'm asking for any reduction.
Overal not a great experience.
Lovely house in great location
We enjoyed a 2-night stay at Wood Norton.
The room was lovely, with all the facilities you would want. We also had a room overlooking the lawn which was lovely with a great view.
The restaurant was OK, but there was nothing special about it. Service was a bit random, and I find it frustrating when hotels expect you to give your room number when you arrive for breakfast, but do not have anyone at the desk when you do arrive. Some people just walked in and sat down rather than waiting.
I have to say that the metal frontage on the bar looked awful, and just not in keeping with the rest of the decor and/or building. It also made it look grubby.
Overall though, a good hotel and we had a good weekend.
