COULD BE A SUPERB HOTEL BUT IT IS MERELY

This could be a superb hotel. Beautiful old building and location - but......
Very comfortable bed and welcome Moulton Brown toiletries. However , the television was unwatchable due to its location in the room, the furniture was of a very low standard (IKEA?) and there were no inexpensive extras , such as a notepad and pen. In addition, the sockets were such that to switch on the kettle, I had to use a multiple socket placed in the floor under the TV!. The dining room is beautifully wood panelled, but let down by cheap modern furniture. The young waiters wore grubby creased shirts. When we asked for toast, we were given one slice each!! Warm wter in a glass, not a jug - fresh from the tap. No ice or lemon offered. We won t be returning pity though

Looked promising, but disappointing

Could be a nice hotel, with lovely grounds and nice rooms. Lacked ambience, but this was probably due to the small number of people staying at the time we were there (mid winter). Breakfasts good but evening meal choice poor and one meal turned up stone cold. This was quickly replaced, but still not to be expected from this class of hotel.

Not really Luxury 4 star

The hotel is billed as luxury 4*, which is not quite the reality. It is a nice hotel, but not the luxury anticipated for our honeymoon.
Some staff were more casually dressed than would have been expected. Most of the staff were friendly and very helpful although there were a couple of staff who seemed to avoid dealing with you, even when you were standing right in front of them.
The room was clean and comfortable, but the wardrobe was tiny and three drawers for a 5-night stay, just wasn't adequate so we were living out of our suitcases. The room was tired, and the bathroom needed some attention (stains on the ceiling, broken tiles).
The food was nice, plentiful and tasty although more options of healthy food (salads, dishes with an alternative to chips) would have been good.
