Dissapointing
Generally ok but needs improvement. Bedroom and other rooms ok. First breakfast good but coffee lukewarm and such a tiny jug for milk, needed to keep going to refill it. First evening meal OK.
On the second morning the porridge was terribly prepared, but the coffee was hot. The second evening meal didn't happen as the rain caused a flood in the kitchen and cooking was not possible. We ordered wine and we were offered charcuterie and cheese. We only wanted cheese and crackers and ice cream.
As we had an allowance for food and drink I was more than surprised that we were asked to pay an additional small amount.given that we had not had a meal!
Could be better!
Great looking building in superb grounds with very comfortable rooms. But, the restaurant/bar/wine prices are inflated just too much, the offering isn't of good enough quality to justify these prices. The young staff try very hard and are very pleasant, but obviously lack quality training. I had to send my meal back as the fish was extremely dry and way overcooked. For 30 I would expect to have a chef who was competent enough not to allow such a dish to be sent out!
5 night stay at Wood Norton Hall
Although we enjoyed our stay overall. It was marred by the apparent lack of staff training, reception staff often busy on their computer or phone keeping guests waiting without acknowledgement. Evidence of lack of house keeping in the house, although cleaning of room was ok.
General ambiance lacking, Not many smiles from the staff, one almost felt we were a nuisance.
Breakfast excellent, great choices. Restaurant food fair but unfortunately served on cold/ barely warm plates requiring reheating. We found this really disappointing.
One member of staff,Deputy Manager, Heather was excellent. Very helpful and efficient, she did her best to make our stay enjoyable despite some of the shortcomings already identified.
