Restaurant experience

Anon, stayed: December 2023

Atmosphere and ambiance of restaurant let down by female staff wearing scrufily leggings and training shoes.

No romantic atmosphere and poor service waiting over 20 minutes since being seated to be offered a drink.

We visited in mid February and the hotel was cold but the food was extremely good!

Anon, stayed: February 2024

Hotel generally was cold - we didn t feel warm enough in restaurant or bars which wasn t relaxing.
Unfortunately the boiler broke down the night we arrived which resulted in no hot water for showers the following morning, however it was quickly sorted out.
Prior to arrival I had arranged for the restaurant to bring a small celebratory cake to our table for my husbands special birthday & reminded reception when I got to hotel disappointingly nothing happened.
The food at the hotel both at breakfast and evening meal was exceptional.

Great location, lovely setting, noisy room

RA, Hampshire, stayed: April 2024

The hotel is in a lovely spot, with great views over the River Avon to the Charlton Hills from rooms on the south-west side of the building. The greeting from the lady on reception was very friendly and welcoming.

We were in room 210 (second floor, most westerly end of the building). At 11pm, I phoned reception to ask when the very loud fan that we could hear from our room would be switched off. The reply was that it was the kitchen extractor and it would cease around 11:30pm but we would still be able to hear the hotel's air conditioning system which runs continually. I was not impressed, having paid 280 for one night's B&B for my wife and myself, so asked to be moved to a room where we would be able to sleep. To give him his due, the receptionist contacted the manager and we were given the key to room 105 on the floor below and away from the aircon system. It was a nice room - we didn't move to it lock, stock and barrel, we just used it as sleeping quarters. I was pleased that hotel reception and management accepted that there was a problem and rectified the situation without argument, so that was good, but something needs to be done about the noisy aircon system and kitchen extractor. A final point about the rooms, my wife felt that they were a bit "spartan" given that this is a 4* hotel, so a bit disappointing.

The restaurant was very good, with an interesting selection of meals, nicely presented at reasonable prices, and breakfast was also very good. The waiting staff were very helpful and friendly.

Would we stay here again? Probably not, unless the noisy aircon and kitchen extractor problems are sorted out. Which is a shame, given the location, views and convenient access to a lovely part of the country.
