Very poor visit
We booked and paid in advance with the inclusive allowance for dinner however the first night was awful. We had uncooked pasta to start with a watery lemon drowning, and unflavoured prawns. Both had steak for main which was supposed to be rib-eye but looked more like rump and tasted of iron, like a pigeon taste! The Amaone wine was very poor for the price. Therefore we couldn t trust eating dinner there the second night so had to forego the pre-payment and eat elsewhere. The manager said he would speak to countryhotelbreaks and get us a refund, this hasn t happened.
The Saturday morning there was no hot water and when speaking to reception they really didn t care. Other than the 2 bar staff working on the sat night the rest of the staff really didn t want to be there and didn t care for hospitality!
February Stay
A very interesting venue, given its history. Our room overlooked the garden and the Malvern Hills. Upon arrival we decided to have a couple of drinks in the bar. It was a shame that there were no nuts or crisps available. We had a restaurant reservation at 8pm, the choice of dishes was good and our meal was fantastic, however this was overshadowed slightly with the service being slow.
The next morning, we noticed there was no hot water, we reported this to reception, only to be told that they were aware and that the whole hotel was without and waiting for an engineer! After our cold showers we went for breakfast, again a slow service, however our full English was hot and enjoyable.
Overall, a great location, but service could have been quicker.
Not as expected.
External signage very poor. External routing signs have text too small. No notice on entrance door which looks rough and not an obvious way in.
Rooms OK . Water DANGEROUSLY hot, toilet seat loose. An allowance of 30 per person was made for the evening meal but this was nowhere enough as a tasteless portio of baked cod cost 29. Meal for 2 cost 82 for starter and main without drinks.this cost was outrageous when I consider the quality.
Breakfast good and very broad range of drinks and cereals..
I had been to Wood Norton on a couple of times when it was the BBC Engineering training establishment so chose to return for nostalgia and a Valentine day treat. My experience was not as I had hoped so did not stay for the second prepaid night.
