At down norton
A bit of a trek up to pear tree rooms. These were large and comfortable but a few short comings like no phone and TV that needed resetting. The menu didn't change at all for three nights and the service was rather slow. Generally v pleasant especially as we went with friends.

Very pleasant 2 day stay
We stayed in the main house with the bedroom on the second floor with lovely views over the garden (209). There was a lift. Room was small but adequate. Very good decor and the bed was super. Hospitality tray. Thought the lighting a bit too subdued for us but we are 'oldies'.
Ate in the dining room as part of the package. Food was very nice although a bit expensive especially when you had to add on potatoes/veg. I asked for two starters on the first night as I wasn't feeling too good and it wasn't a problem. Chef was happy to prepare a meal for my husband with a dietary requirement. The partridge on the second evening was really delicious. If I had to make one comment it would be the overuse of nuts on nearly every dish in some form or other and that includes the desserts. I am sure chef would omit them if asked. The very young dining room staff could do with some training as they were unsure of the menu. However allowance has to be made in these unprecedented times but some training would help. Breakfast was really very good with a good choice even although it was supposed to be a shortened version. We found service at al meals swift.
