Let down by restaurant

TL, Hampshire, stayed: June 2022

Very pleasant hotel but badly let down by dinner in the restaurant. We found that the menu was limited and we had to resort to fish and chips. This was a big mistake because, quite honestly they were worse than " pub grub". There was a small amount of fish encased in masses of batter. The fish was far from fresh and the chips were barely cooked. We complained and the waiter offered us a 50% discount. As we were on a dinner inclusive package that was not very helpful. And, in any case, we didn't want a discount. We just wanted food that was consistent with a four star hotel. Such a shame.

Anniversary treat

PH, Leicestershire, stayed: August 2022

We stayed in early August as an anniversary treat. The sink in our original room was not functioning and so we were upgraded to a feature room with original oakwood panelling, feature fire place and lovely bathroom. This was very nice, but sadly this is where it ended.
On the first night, the weather was superb and we were invited to dine on the outside terrace which had lovely views. However we were not warned that we would be invaded by a wedding guest party of 50 -60 guests, so our quiet romantic meal was spoilt by noice and inconsiderate guests jostling and standing around or near our table. Trying to get a waiter to take an order was then impossible after this, as clearly the wedding guest party took priority. The Sunday breakfast was equally a complete mayhem as the wedding guests arrived very shortly after us. Again what was hoped to be a leisurely experience turned into a fiasco. I felt very sorry for the head waitress who was getting a lot of grief from guests for the long wait. There should have been more staff available. On a positive, when our breakfast did arrive it was very nicely presented and freshly cooked to order.
The next evening was thankfully much quieter, but despite this it was virtually impossible to get any waiters attention to order drinks or food, despite only being a handful of guests. The food is well overpriced and quite limited in choice. The first night I had a steak and was the worst cut of meat I have ever had, full of gristle and I do not exaggerate, was virtually impossible to cut. Another guest had the same complaint. On both evenings we went to sit in the lounges, but no lights were left on, and so this gave a completely unwelcoming feel to the place. We all know electricity is expensive but this is taking it to the limit! Upon checking out of the hotel, there was no nicety of asking if we had had a good stay. In summary, very disappointing stay and would not recommend, or return.
