A relaxing break
Overall a very good experience. The hotel sits in beautiful grounds with views of the lake and the ability to complete a circular walk down to the lake edge. Our room was pleasantly spacious and comfortable and the food and service in the restaurant was excellent. The negatives are minor and easily corrected. Reception was perfunctory rather than welcoming and directions to the room were vague. We were not alone in struggling with our suitcases trying to find our room. We met two other couples also wandering the corridors. The issue could be resolved by more signage. Having toured the length and breadth of the first floor and going up and down further flights of stairs we discovered that a plain ordinary looking door on the stairwell revealed another corridor. This trial and error approach continued through another two unmarked doors. The simple addition of signs on the doors indicating access to the relevant room numbers would have prevented rising irritation after a long drive. The only other niggle was the regular absence of bar staff and the long waits for service. To be fair to the staff I think they were also serving the drinks in the restaurant and so were regularly drawn away. Don't let those issues put you off. A very comfortable hotel with beautiful public rooms.
Excellent stay
Every thing about the stay was superb from the superb staff the wonderful meals. The room was fantastic far better than expected. Being an old building you sometimes find that things are looking a bit tired but the decor was immaculate. Would have no problem giving a very high recommendation to anyone and would certainly stay again. WELL Done to everyone concerned.
Excellent
Only one word is needed to describe our 2 night stay. EXCELLENT.
