Short stay
We chose this hotel because it was dog friendly, the room was very basic and a bit tired. We didn t expect luxury because we had a dog. The room however was very cold. The radiator was going on and off but seemed under powered for the room. We were told we could get a dog bed and bowl from reception. The lady eventually found us a dog bed but gave us a dirty dog bowl. Overall the staff were very friendly and welcoming in the communal areas. The restaurant and bar menu was a bit limited for us. The location next to the Deer park was great for us.
Very disappointing
On arrival our room was (Room 2) boiling hot and eventually was found to have faulty radiators. We were promptly moved to room 107. This was in another building a few minutes walk from reception. Although the room was nice, the wardrobe door hinge was broken, one of the plug sockets was only held on with one screw, so came away when my companion s phone was plugged in. The coffee machine didn t work, nor did the fan in the bathroom. At night the lamps in the garden marking the path to the room were not on and it was pitch black. The high speed Wi-Fi was extremely slow, registering a speed of 2. The tv sound kept going out of sync, presumably due to the poor signal.
I had emailed to check the booking was ok as it was my companions 80th birthday and asked if they could pop a candle in a small cake when we had our dinner in their restaurant. I had no reply and on the evening of his birthday they didn t bring anything. We had invited friends to join us and the food was very basic. The next night we dined in the next village at the Kings Head and the food and service was excellent, plus they popped a birthday candle in his pudding without any special request, but simply because I had mentioned we were away as a celebration.
The electrical point in the room and lack of lighting I think are a health and safety issue. Although the staff were helpful the rest of the issues plus the fact the room key kept packing up made our two days frustrating and stressful at a time when I was trying to give my friend a nice break for his birthday.
