Nice hotel but so noisy

MR, Essex, stayed: August 2025

Lovely hotel and grounds, restaurant was great, although breakfast wasn t very good, bacon sausage and black pudding dry and eggs were rock hard the first day.

They have weddings which get so noisy and the second night I had to call reception at 11:30pm only to be told the only solution would be to move rooms! Member of staff didn t even apologise which was terrible. For a 5 star hotel, this situation was dealt with badly and they should have arrangements in place where the wedding parties don t affect other paying guests. The wedding the night before obviously was in a different room and was much better. Consequently would not go near this place again. Restaurant staff were all really nice though I have to say.

Lovely venue, needs money spending on it and staff training in restaurants

Anon, stayed: January 2026

Our bedroom which we upgraded was fabulous, but the bathroom had mould on the ceiling, there was no walk in shower and there was a shower curtain rather than a panel. The sink taps didn t work well. The champagne that should have been waiting in our room was not there and to be honest, a top notch b snd b could have done better, be it not with the beautiful building and surroundings.

The staff were professional and friendly and the food was gorgeous, be it we only had access to the seasonal menu in mid January, but we were disappointed to have our dinner plates cleared whilst one of us was still eating, even though we asked the waiter to wait. The response to that was don t worry, I ll come back for that one .

Overall, we felt it was beautiful, we enjoyed ourselves, but it was not worth the cost with the aforementioned issues and certainly not the upgrade. This review was our experience but with a refurbished bathroom and a little training, it would have been perfect.

Danesfield House Hotel & Spa says...

Dear Judy,

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your recent stay. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the upgraded bedroom, found the staff professional and friendly, and appreciated the quality of the food and the beauty of the building and surroundings.

I'm very sorry to learn that the bathroom did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the mould, shower facilities, and tap functionality. This is certainly not the standard we aim to provide, especially for an upgraded room, and your comments have been shared with our maintenance and management teams for review. I also apologise that the champagne was not in your room on arrival, which we understand was disappointing.

Please accept my apologies as well for your experience in the restaurant. Clearing plates before all guests have finished, particularly after being asked to wait, is not acceptable, and your feedback has been passed on to the relevant team for further training and review.

We appreciate your honest comments and your recognition that, with some improvements and additional training, the experience could have been perfect. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us focus on areas where we can improve, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide the experience you rightly expected.

Kind regards,

Chanelle Dale
Hotel Operations Coordinator

A bit like Faulty Towers!

DB, Arundel, stayed: November 2024

When we arrived it was clear they were under staffed. It took quite a time to be booked-in. Initially we were pleasantly surprised by the room and the view. First thing I did was try to join the WiFi but we couldn t connect. Help from the front desk eventually arrived but to no avail. And still no WiFi when we left three days later! I wasn t able to access the TV in the room either.
I started reading my book but as the day turned into night the room started getting cold. There was no heating thermostat. When checking I was told the heating does not turn on until 7pm, this was at the end of November!! On our way to the bar before dinner we were surprised to see the big and very grand baronial hall empty with a large fireplace showing a sad flickering flame in one corner struggling to get going and throw out some warmth. The next morning after breakfast the relaid hearth was still struggling whilst some brave guests were huddling under blankets- stiff upper lip! Oh, and at various points over the weekend I asked for a light bulb to be changed so I could read my book but this didn t happen!
On the whole this was a very disappointing weekend.
