Disappointed

Peter C, Herefordshire, stayed: June 2024

First impressions very good with well kept grounds, adequate car parking, impressive main building. efficient check in.
Our room (215), appeared spacious and well furnished and equipped. However, our stay was spoilt as the room fell short of acceptable standards.
1, No Decaf tea or coffee supplied.
2. No spare pillows.
3. No extra blankets. (very cold nights for time of year).
4. No vanity mirror for hair dryer use etc.
5. No local electric plug for hair drier use. Had to request extension lead!
6. No control over room temperature.
7 Bath waste mechanism failed. Left bath half full and reported to reception upon check out.

The above may appear to some as trivial but from our perspective the reality fell far short of expectations especially when the price is taken into account.

There is catch to their special offers

Michael I, Norfolk, stayed: February 2024

Poor dinner menu with almost all items requiring additional charges- despite booking offer with full evening meal. Cocktails at approx 20 each deserve some little nibble with them - you can get nibbles ; but at an extra charge. Ugh

Disappointed!

Elizabeth Dunn, stayed: October 2021

My best friend booked this for our wedding anniversary treat and to celebrate being able to get together after 19months of being apart as we live in Ireland.
On arrival, there seemed to be some confusion over the rooms (297&298) - we were kept waiting for an unacceptably long time with no explanation and with no offer of refreshments whilst we waited for it to be resolved.
On arrival into our beautiful and impressive room, there was a noticeable absence of the bottle of champagne that was meant to be there to greet us on arrival. I spoke to Reception who assured me that it would await us on our return from the bar where we had retreated to, to get some much needed refreshments.
When we returned to our room we were greeted by a box of chocolates and a card welcoming Charlotte and wishing her a happy birthday- poor girl would have been fearfully disappointed as the box was empty but I didn t know that until I returned to my friend s house at the end of the visit and gave her the chocolates to share with me.
The television didn t work but that was resolved promptly and we eventually got our champagne!
Our dinner was delicious and delightful- sadly, the evening was somewhat spoiled by two members of staff admonishing the assistant restaurant manager within the hearing of the guests in the bar. Having much experience of the right to dignity and respect in the workplace, I found this completely unprofessional and unacceptable.
I raised all of these points with the duty receptionist when we settled our bill. She assured us that she would pass the comments to her manager who would be in touch with us in due course. I offered to repeat them so that she could write them down and my email address but this, she declined to do. Needless to say, we haven t heard a word from anyone.
Considering the prices charged, I would expect a much higher standard of customer service, not one that fell very far short of a hotel claiming to be of this standard.
The pool and spa were excellent .

Danesfield House Hotel & Spa says...

Thank you for taking the time to post such a detailed review of your stay here with us at Danesfield House and I am sorry to hear that there were clearly several times during your stay where we as team let ourselves down and did not provide our usual high standards of service; particularly in the restaurant.

Having spoken with our reservations team I understand the issue the rooms on arrival was caused due to some miscommunication on our behalf with the third party you booked through, unfortunately it can sometimes take some time for us to investigate these matters and while I am glad we were able to resolve the issue I am sorry that wasn't handled as well as it should have been.

Clearly we have not managed to get things right for you over the course of your stay and after your departure and for this I am truly sorry.

Kind regards,

Director of Operations
