An enjoyable stay

Anon, stayed: September 2023

It is a lovely hotel with friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. The location is on the river but distant from the nearest town. The restaurant menu was a little disappointing and unexciting which was a shame. The weather was awful but it did not spoil our stay.

Lovely stay

Anon, stayed: October 2023

We stayed using a Telegraph deal which included dinner on first night and a bottle of champagne in the room on arrival. Our lovely room was in the coach house overlooking the grounds. Value for money paid. Beautiful grounds and well placed between Henley and Marlow.

Beautiful setting and very accommodating staff

Anon, stayed: November 2023

As you sweep up the drive in the twilight, the twinkling lights artfully trailed over the trees give a feeling of welcome and warmth. The building itself is grand - high ceilings, a minstrel's gallery in the lounge, plush furniture and decoration. The jewel in the crown is definitely the stunning views, particularly from the dining room/conservatory.

We had excellent service from the catering staff. They couldn't do enough for you. The food is beautifully cooked and presented and at breakfast you could just keep ordering until you were full. So much better than a buffet system, though they are limited by space which means you might not get the breakfast time you want.

For me, the downside was the room we stayed in. I had asked for a walk in shower as I have two artificial hips and an artificial knee. This meant I was put out in what I imagine was once the stable block in a rather unpleasant, utilitarian box like affair with no character and my pet hate with a wet room - which is actually lethal underfoot. As the word 'luxury' is much banded about in this stay - I can honestly say there was none in the room. We were staying for a special celebration and the room experience undermined what in other respects was a lovely experience. The cleaning staff didn't even replace the tea bags/milk used! Poor show all round.

I wish the booking staff had informed me that it wasn't a walk in shower but a wet room - I wouldn't have booked that room. I feel that was a failure of information.

I wouldn't stay at the hotel again but I would definitely use it as a birthday lunch venue.
