Beautiful Setting

Allan J, Hampshire, stayed: April 2024

Overlooking Burnsall bridge and the river, the hotel gives lovely views of Wharfedale, especially from the restaurant and conservatory dining area. Our room was very comfortable but with shower over bath was not the easiest to use. But it was fine for us. The restaurant was excellent with some genuine fine dining food. The hotel was just a short walk down the hill into Burnsall for access to excellent riverside walks.

Disappointed

Heather, Cheshire, stayed: June 2024

We received the luxury lazy break voucher as a Christmas present. First of all, we had to add further money when making the booking despite the voucher costing 250. It says it includes an evening meal but what it actually includes is 30 pp to use on an evening meal. Most of the main meals in the restaurant in our hotel were priced over 30 so to call it an evening meal is a stretch when it doesn't even cover one course. I understand this may be different in other hotels. Our hotel was nice but our evening meal was absolutely dreadful. Our mains arrived before our starters. One of the main meals (fish) was undercooked cold and inedible. The other parts were tasteless and considering the price, just not acceptable. Obviously we sent the meal back but the staff did not know how to deal with our disappointment. They also didn't communicate with each other and were fussing around the table offering an alternative but as we had already been waiting a very long time, I didn't trust them to be able to cook anything else. The staff felt like they needed basic training in how to wait on. They were bringing desserts out when they hadn't cleared plates from the previous courses. They gave us the late starters and desserts "on the house" but when you think your are getting your evening meal as part of your deal anyway, this doesn't really mean much. They gave me a drink on the house too but then charged us for a second drink which we thought was also on the house as we not used our 60 worth of food. However, upon checkout, this had been charged to the room. We didn't argue this as we just wanted to leave. Overall, the evening meal was not an enjoyable experience. I definitely would not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel and I wouldn't recommend anyone buy a voucher via this website either as it not good value for money. You would save money booking directly because I'm sure the 1 hour late checkout isn't enough to bump the price up to as much as 250! Such a shame to have what seems like a nice thoughtful Christmas present feeling like a waste of time.

We say...

Thank you for your review.

It is stated in the package details that you would receive a £30 per person allocation for dinner.

We can see you had a voucher worth £250, the hotel can be booked midweek for 1 night in a Standard room for £249.  As you booked a Classic room, this did cost more.

We are sorry to hear the stay didn't meet all your expectations.

Kind regards,

Off Peak Luxury
