Weekend stay
The hotel is pleasant and the staff are pleasant but the food and drinks are over priced for the quality of the meal, service at breakfast was poor (missing part of the order) and charged for additional coffee needed as the missing part of the breakfast (after reminding them) came later
Disappointed
We received the luxury lazy break voucher as a Christmas present. First of all, we had to add further money when making the booking despite the voucher costing 250. It says it includes an evening meal but what it actually includes is 30 pp to use on an evening meal. Most of the main meals in the restaurant in our hotel were priced over 30 so to call it an evening meal is a stretch when it doesn't even cover one course. I understand this may be different in other hotels. Our hotel was nice but our evening meal was absolutely dreadful. Our mains arrived before our starters. One of the main meals (fish) was undercooked cold and inedible. The other parts were tasteless and considering the price, just not acceptable. Obviously we sent the meal back but the staff did not know how to deal with our disappointment. They also didn't communicate with each other and were fussing around the table offering an alternative but as we had already been waiting a very long time, I didn't trust them to be able to cook anything else. The staff felt like they needed basic training in how to wait on. They were bringing desserts out when they hadn't cleared plates from the previous courses. They gave us the late starters and desserts "on the house" but when you think your are getting your evening meal as part of your deal anyway, this doesn't really mean much. They gave me a drink on the house too but then charged us for a second drink which we thought was also on the house as we not used our 60 worth of food. However, upon checkout, this had been charged to the room. We didn't argue this as we just wanted to leave. Overall, the evening meal was not an enjoyable experience. I definitely would not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel and I wouldn't recommend anyone buy a voucher via this website either as it not good value for money. You would save money booking directly because I'm sure the 1 hour late checkout isn't enough to bump the price up to as much as 250! Such a shame to have what seems like a nice thoughtful Christmas present feeling like a waste of time.
Slightly Disappointed
Love the location of this hotel and was very excited to stay
The room was lovely and very clean
Bathroom a little dated but ok
The bar / restaurant really disappointed myself and my sister
We had a welcome drink included in our package which wasn t mentioned until the bill was being settled
There is an open fire just at the side of the bar - sadly not the side where diners are - just one table for 2 near it. We did sit here for our drinks before dinner which was nice
However we were offered a cocktail list before dinner
Unfortunately they didn t have a lot of the drink ingredients - poor.
It would have been better to remove the cocktail list if the bar wasn t stocked full after Christmas which was the excuse given
Restaurant area - No atmosphere very cold and we were placed at a table that felt like we were sitting in reception as that was what my sister was facing
I might suggest some different placements of dining tables to create a more intimate cosy vibe
We were also very cold whilst eating which is no fun
The dinner menu was uninspiring . When the food arrived 80% of it was cold
We were so fed up being cold after dinner we took a g and t up to our rooms and got into bed to drink them.
This was my treat for my sisters big birthday and I felt for the price I paid it was a let down
