Left much to be desired!
My husband booked Down Hall for our 8th anniversary break.
I had completely forgotten that we had stayed here some years back for my cousin's wedding.
We arrived on Monday, the 26th, our actual anniversary day, and went straight to the restaurant for a light lunch. We had the two-hour spa session booked from 3 pm-5 pm, so as soon as it was 3 pm we wanted to check in our bags. After waiting in the queue for 10 minutes, we were informed by a staff member who seemed uninterested that our room wasn't ready. No apologies or remuneration, just "we can keep your bags". We head over to the spa, where we were made to wait some more until someone took us inside. My husband was given a locker with someone else's belongings in it twice. We finally got into the hydro pool, and it was lovely. After about 30 minutes, we decided we wanted to go into the relaxation room, which, by the way, is the extent of the spa - they have a hydro pool, relaxation room, and steam room. However, when we arrived at the relaxation room, the only four seats were occupied. For our two-hour session, they had booked six people. We left having spent 40 minutes of our two-hour session. The food was average, the rooms were average, and the only saving grace was that I lost my AirPods, which allowed the staff to demonstrate some good customer service, finally. Every other occasion or interaction with staff was not that of an award-winning hotel.
Beautiful hotel and grounds
The hotel is beautiful, both inside and out, and the extensive grounds are wonderful. We had a long walk around the grounds and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was efficient and friendly. Food in the restaurant was enjoyable but could have been better. If I went there again I would eat in the bar as other guests were enthusiastic about that.
Highly Recommend
Hotel was lovely, relaxing and nice areas to relax. All staff very attentive and amazing food.
