A luxurious break that was outstanding value for money
Our stay at Down Hall delivered so much more than was expected at the price we paid. There was a touch of elegance and class wherever you were; in the room, in the restaurant, walking around the grounds and especially within the hall itself. The food was exceptional. Made us feel like millionaires for a couple of days
Lovely family weekend
The hotel was amazing. Our rooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and always ready to help.
The food at the restaurant was very good, however, I felt that there wasn't a lot of choice, I would have appreciated a bit more choice of salads or vegetable dishes.
The service overall was great, the resaruant staff did all they could to make us comfortable.
Great anniversary break
My wife and I spent a night celebrating 31 years being together and 25 years of marriage at this wonderful hotel. Check in wasn t until 3pm but we arrived at 1pm and were able to leave our bags at reception and enjoyed a drink on the terrace. We had booked a 2 hour session in the Spa which was lovely. There is a huge jacuzzi, a steam room, sauna and relaxation room as well as an outside terrace. Tip- bring a book to read to pass the time. We were fortunate as we seemed to have the whole place to ourselves. After this both myself and my wife had a back, neck and shoulder massage. This was my first massage but my wife has had many and both of us really enjoyed it and felt relaxed after. We then checked into the room. We had booked a double room but it was more like a suite. It was huge and had a seperate bath and shower cubicle which again was very spacious. The toiletries supplied were really nice. The hotel had provided us with champagne as part of our package , but also provided some chocolates and a message written in chocolate on a plate for our anniversary which was a nice touch. The bed was very comfy and we didn t hear any noise at all from the corridor or outside. The only downside was the room was very hot as it didn t have air conditioning which can be difficult to install in such an old building. They had put a fan in our room which helped. We had dinner included in the package and we both enjoyed all three courses. The rabbit was so tender and the rum and raisin ice cream was huge served on a giant brandy snap. We had drinks with dinner and in the bar afterwards. There was a huge range of drinks at prices you would expect in a hotel. Breakfast was impressive ranging from a full English to pastries, cereal, fruit and yoghurt. Tea and coffee was plentiful as well as a range of juices. You could even make a Bloody Mary if you wished. After breakfast we toured the wonderful grounds including the kitchen garden - this helped burn off some of the calories. Overall we felt this was one of the best hotels we had been to in the UK. From the moment we arrived, the hotel staff couldn t do enough for us. The hotel was very busy with a wedding, 70th anniversary party and birthday parties amongst other events happening, but it was so well organised that we felt we were of equal importance to the them. We never had to wait to be served for food and drink. The staff we came across are a credit to the hotel and have obviously been trained well. Special mention to the following staff who made our weekend away memorable: June and Sheridan on reception, Jane and Jacob in the restaurant, Faye in the spa and Niamh and Ellie in the bars. We couldn t have wished for a better weekend and will make sure we return.
