About this property

The George is a historic 14th-century Grade I listed Tudor inn which is super dog-friendly located in the heart of Norton St. Philip, near Bath. With a history dating back to 1397, The George is one of Britain’s oldest taverns, offering nine charming ensuite bedrooms full of original features and the perfect base for a dog-friendly getaway with walks from the village, and the chance to explore Bath and the Somerset surroundings. On the menu, the focus is on seasonal, locally sourced produce and exciting takes on pub classics, with a great selection of award-winning Butcombe beer behind the bar. Outside you can relax in the beer garden, with truly spectacular views across Norton St Philip and the surrounding countryside. Stonehenge and the Roman Baths are close by.

The hotel will be closed for refurbishment from the 25th September to early November 2024.

They serve delicious seasonal menus, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and exciting takes on hearty pub classics. Dog-Friendly Nearby

There are plenty of footpaths running through the village, between cottage gardens, and out into the gorgeous green countryside beyond. You can walk between Norton St Philip and the southern edge of Bath, a lovely route leading across fields and parkland and through woods, via the villages of Hinton Charterhouse, Limpley Stoke, and Monkton Combe. The village’s position on the Bath-Frome bus route is a great one for dog walkers, allowing you to enjoy a walk and return by bus, or hop off the bus to walk from other villages along the route.
