Relaxing stay
Enjoyed a two night stay here in early March. Lovely old building with some history - a display of photos of famous guests is in the entrance hall.
We were snowed in on the first morning (the location is quite high up) and the staff very kindly searched around to find us a DVD player.
We enjoyed an a la carte meal on the first night and a steak offer on the second - no complaints about either.
Disappointed
We booked this as an anniversary break. Unfortunately they were also holding a wedding, which would not have been an issue if we had either been made aware of this beforehand or the staff weren't so overstretched. Part of our package was afternoon tea which we had to have in reception so we didn't feel like we were intruding on a wedding party. The room itself was basic and definitely not luxury. The restaurant was a redeeming feature, the food and service in the evening excellent, and the breakfast service was very efficient. All in all it was a nice break but no better than we could have had at any hotel chain as we felt unable to make full use of the facilities.
One night Stay
The hotel room was clean tidy and well presented. The bed was hard, but this is not unusual for this type of hotel. The bar and restaurant were very well presented and the ambience was very nice. We were on a meal deal and whilst the food was good the menu felt a bit limited and unadventurous.
