No Frills Spa Hotel
On the basis that our Spa break, which included evening meal, was much cheaper than other hotels, I guess this break was 'value for money'. You get what you pay for - just don't set high expectations.
The room was tired, old tv, no light by the desk/dressing table area, no extractor in the bathroom, no air con, and unfortunately a noisy radiator.
Housekeeping was minimal - when we returned to our room, the bed was not rearranged, the sink area not wiped down, and the (one packet of) biscuits not replaced.
Breakfast was OK, but with no menus on the table, we were unsure what was available to be ordered. Napkins were by request only. The help yourself to hot drinks was frustrating, especially as the tea/coffee machine was one end of the serving area, but the milk (by the cereals) at the other. But the food was well prepared and hot (even if the plates were not).
Spa facilities were not always available (issue with the jacuzzi), and it seems that the steam room has a fault, but thankfully the locals knew the hack to get it to turn on. The facilities would benefit from more regular cleaning. (We spotted a paper cup left in the sauna, from the previous day).
But on the plus side, the staff were polite and helpful, and at the end of the day, for what we paid ( 130pn DBB, for a couple) we did get to stay in a spa hotel, in a great location, so I guess we did get a lot for the money?!
A well needed break.
It's a nice hotel. The public areas were a bit cold but the rooms were warm enough. Apart from the bedside lamps there was no overhead lighting in the rooms which made reading difficult. Overall, the rooms were comfortable and the en-suite clean . Our biscuits were not "topped up" for the second night.
The spa facilities were nice and we made good use of them although the steam room was out of action unfortunately. We hired towelling gowns for the duration of our stay to make the use of the spa facilities easier.
We had made a booking for the New Year's Eve Gala dinner when we booked the stay on line about three days before we arrived. We were left wondering what the menu choice was and where we would be seated. Some people came to our room to ask for menu choices on the day, but there was a clear misunderstanding about where we were to be seated and another table was hastily prepared for another couple. We were not served some of the courses and had to chase the waiters up. The food itself was fine (although my beef was slightly on the fatty side so I swapped my main course with my husband). We enjoyed the overall experience and it was a nice place to stay.
Great location but a little tired.
This hotel could be so much better than it is. There is the potential but it needs some investment. Our room was in the old house which was fine but it was a little tired and could do with a refurbishment. Main issue we had was that you can only access the gardens through the main function area. As there was a wedding on one of the days of our stay, the only way to sit in the gardens was to walk around the outside of the building. This needs looking at. Also loads of dirty glasses scattered around outside. Missed opportunity to serve drinks, food etc out in the plesant gardens. Restaurant okay but with no exterior windows not ideal.
