Disappointing anniversary weekend
Visited Kenwood hall for our wedding anniversary on Sunday 8 October. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was ready on time. It was very clean, well aired and spacious. Nice quality toiletries, towels and robes. Bed was comfy. We had a welcome glass of fizz served by a really helpful young man and enjoyed this outside on the terrace. The gardens and outdoor areas were nicely maintained. We were looking forward to our evening meal but were warned that there was a wedding at the hotel and a coach party of 50. The evening meal can only be described as complete chaos. It took a while to seat us despite there being tables available. We were given the wrong menu and told this was what was available. It was a set menu with 3 items per course - which went down to 2 choices for both starter and main. Not ideal but we chose anyway, enjoyed a glass of wine while we waited, and waited and waited for our food to arrive. It took an hour for our starters to arrive and they only came after we managed to get the attention of the lonely young man who was doing his best on his own to serve everyone. The main course took as long to arrive as they had forgotten us again and the deserts arrived almost 2 and a half hours after we had entered the dining room and they brought the wrong dessert. Other diners fared no better than us, it was like faulty towers. We enjoyed sharing horror stories with other guests some of whom had been there a couple of days and said service had been bad throughout. The food was underwhelming. As we anticipated breakfast experience was not good. We waited ages for a table even though not many people were in the restaurant. It was due to no clean tables being available. Food was ok.
It s such a shame as we felt that the issues were probably due to inadequate staffing levels. Up to the point of dining we had enjoyed our time at the hotel and enjoyed the gardens. Would definitely not stay here again!
Average
The ladies in the Spa were amazing and an absolute credit to the place, they couldn't have done enough for us! The treatments were also great! What let the customer service down was the waiting staff at the evening meal being completely incompetent, one gentleman clearly knew nothing about serving a pint or general restaurant expectations, he took so long to bring our sauces that we had finished our meals! Luckily I went and found someone else who managed to get what we needed instantly, he was also great at his job but it seemed he worked the event that was on and not the restaurant. There was a very loud party on underneath our room, this was okay as we went out and came back after it had finished on purpose, they did offer to change rooms if it was a problem, a heads up would have been nice. All other staff were average but nothing spectacular, I would say the same for the building, outdated and not the cleanest, could do with some tlc over all! The food was basic and a little bland, the menu was very badly written and items weren't named correctly. Overall with a little more effort could be much better.
Relaxing but not again.
Restaurant evening meal very average, service was inexperienced. Room was nice. Relaxing enough.
