Taplow House Hotel & Spa

Needs some work

For an up market hotel Taplow house has some work to do. The hotel was unstaffed and several times we had to go searching for someone to man the bar, attend the front desk etc. The staff were welcoming but far too few. The bedroom was passable with a small double but lacked lighting, there was no main light and only one of the 3 lamps worked.
The food was exceptional and I'd definitely go back for a meal but for the money they charge for a room I'd go elsewhere

Weird stay

Checked in and with the package stay we booked we didn t receive our welcome chocolates or Prosecco. Reasoning behind no welcome drink was our arrival at 5pm. But the welcome we received seemed off and unwelcoming. Food was very average, I had fish and chips but it was more like batter and chips as the fish was nonexistent.
The room itself was nice and the location was ideal.

Not what we expected

The best thing was the staff, very friendly and polite. Our room I think was the worst one in the hotel although I am sure the others are nicer. They were busy so we were right up the top in a small room which had dated bathroom and furniture. Food was good, although you had to ask for fruit and toast as not listed on menu.
We only stayed 1 of our 2 nights due to illness. On checking out they charged us for the dog 20 even though we queried it as we thought we had already paid this. We have been trying to contact them since by telephone, email, head office, accounts everything, but not one reply, so not good. They also said they would contact yourselves to organise a refund for the second night, has this happened? probably not. So after service very poor.
