Pleasant Stay

Nice characteristic hotel in lovely grounds. Staff very helpful and friendly. Room clean but difficult to get out of shower in bath as right next to WC.
Good food, only criticism is restaurant lacks ambience, felt rather uncomfortable having a conversation at the table in the evening.

Loud music

We arrived in our room and the champagne that was promised was not in our room and our bed was not made properly, with the throw in a pile on the floor. We were not overly bothered and returned to reception to request our champagne. The food was ok, not the best we have had but tasty enough. The real issue was the next morning we were woken at 7.20am by loud music being played, it sounded like there was a function or something it was so loud! I called down to reception, they apologised and turned it down. It was then turned back up 20 mins later!! The break is described as a romantic and relaxing break and as a couple with 2 small children were looking forward to a lie in more than anything else!! Unfortunately we didn t get it. Overall a pretty unimpressive stay.

Lovely location but just a bit under staffed

I loved the hotel venue, the inside has clearly been redesigned and definitely a step up from the outdated bedrooms. The spa facilities you can't fault, they were lovely as were the therapists.

The restaurant manager was brilliant, but seemed to be the only one who had hotel experience and was literally covering everything, a hard worker for sure. The other staff were limited and very uncertain of what to do. On arrival as part of our package we were promised welcome prosecco, after reminding someone we waited and after an hour we just decided to buy our own. Little things like that were dissapointing.

Having said all this, i would be keen to try them again in the future, assuming the bedrooms get an update and the staffing issues get better. It's a great location from London on the Elizabethan line, such an easy stay, the grounds are beautiful. And i think with a few tweaks it could be brilliant, its tough times getting staff that are experienced (especially after brexit), so I do understand these things take a little time to fix.
