Not value for money
Only realised after i left that I was charged for prosecco and a service charge when it was part of my package. Service charges in the restaurant should be optional not added to you bill. I would rather tip the waitress who was excellent. We asked about using the pool to be advised it would be 25 each!!
Not so good as last time!
We returned to this hotel because it was excellent on our last visit (pre-Covid). Regrettably I don't think we will return. We ended up with the same room as last time, located at the top of the hotel with a bathroom radiator that was boiling hot on one of the hottest days of the year (the hotel got their engineer to shut it down). The shower attachment in the bath was practically unusable due to lack of enclosure or shower head rest when standing - 2nd time we've put up with this. We asked for the room upgrade (as promised by offpeak subject to availability) of course there was no availability. The hotel had worked hard to accommodate the virus situation but the meals were not as good as our previous visit (limited choice of evening meal when you're on a 3 night stay). Breakfast continental choice was almost non-existent from our previous experience but the cooked options were well prepared & delicious. The Spa treatment (wife's manicure) was too expensive, not applied well & could not be rectified in full due to lack of items needed, not in stock!
Restaurant service very poor
No problems on arrival and added surprise we had been upgraded to a suite of rooms which were fabulous, very spacious and clean.
Afternoon tea was included but this was not a good standard - poor selection of sandwiches, scones like rocks and unappetising cakes and it was very slow in coming to us.
We had dinner in the restaurant for two of our three night stay, the first evening service was a little slow but the second evening it was atrocious, we had to wait an hour for our starters, totally unacceptable and the rest of the courses were a long time arriving. The food was good but not outstanding. The waiter on the first evening was very helpful but the two waitresses on the second were not as you would expect in a hotel of that standard. The head waiter on the second evening did give me a complimentary glass of wine and went over the top with gushiness, which was quite annoying as by then we were really fed up with the wait for our meal. No problems at all with the breakfast, very good choice available.
Our stay was spoilt by our experiences with bad service at dinner.
