Happy Ruby Wedding Short Stay
We spent a most enjoyable couple of nights away at the Greenway, as an impromptu Ruby Wedding present to ourselves. We found it in the Daily Telegraph Offers, and it was exceptional value, especially as The Greenway had upgraded our bedroom.
We were warmly welcomed by a log fire in the hall, and tasty cream tea in the drawing room. After checking out the spa facilities (pool, sauna, jacuzzi etc) we relaxed until dinner time. Dinner was definitely up to the standards promised, good but limited menu choice (so all freshly prepared) well presented & very tasty, accompanied by good bottle of wine (one of the few things we had to pay for).
After a good, peaceful night's sleep we awoke to appreciate the location - well cared for gardens looking out onto the hills beyond. We enjoyed the full english breakfasts, and found plenty of interest to do in the days. The hotel suggested a visit to Painswick Rococo Gardens, and with over 5 million snowdrops in full flower, and an interesting talk from the head gardener on the history of the gardens, was well worth going, even on a drizzly day! That evening, we fancied a change, so popped down to the Bell, in the local village of Shurdington, where we had proper pub steaks, chips & all the trimmings for 10/ head .... Wednesday is steak night !
The following day, on our way home, we called into Slimbridge Wildfowl & Wetland Trust, which was a truly fascinating display of not only waterfowl from around the world, but also otters, beavers, not forgetting the toads newts & frogs in "Toad Hall". So our 1 hour stop turned into a 4 or 5 hours, and still we had not seen it all.
So the Greenway gave us a much needed 2 day break just outside Cheltenham, where we could have simply relaxed & enjoyed the facilities, or used as a base for some interesting day trips.

Excellent quiet room. Very convenient spa and open early. Delicious meals and courteous service.
Beautiful building with lovely rooms
I was very impressed that staff came out to the car to greet us and take our luggage - also no forms to fill in on arrival. The spa is really top class and I thoroughly enjoyed using all its facilities. Any minor hiccups were put right immediately.
