Woburn hotel and restaurant. Woburn

VT, Essex, stayed: May 2026

This Hotel beak was ought from children to celebrate my 70th birthday. On arriving at the hotel, we thought this is nice. When we went to the room, I was appalled at the state of the bathroom. The toilet was badly stained, it obviously had not been cleaned properly for a long time, the bath had black mould on the tiles. The shower was diverted from the bath tap, that didn t work. The outlook was a brick wall. The pillow protectors were grey and bobbly. As for the cups for tea, They were the size of soup bowls. I did take pictures.
I did complain to the receptionist, and showed her the photos. She said she would notify Housekeeping. Also said the staining was because it s a hard water area. This is not acceptable. We were moved to another room that was a little better, the toilet was just as bad. We had no choice but to accept as the hotel was full. The breakfast was not great, I ordered a vegetarian breakfast with sweet potato, the potato was cold, when I asked the waiter why were they cold, the answer was this how it comes, it was sent back, and warmed up, but by then I didn t want it, and just had cereal. I then asked for a banana, there were none, but offed oranges instead.

POWER OUTAGE

Martin C, Essex, stayed: April 2025

Difficult to really judge because the electricity was off when we arrived. A generator was fitted but understandably there was only a severely restricted menu for dinner. However the roast dinner was unsatisfactory in the extreme. When I commented to a waiter that this was one of the worst I had ever had the waiter walked away without saying anything. Sausage at breakfast was hard and chewy. Refund was very fair,

Ive already sent these comments to The Woburn:
On entering our room we were very disappointed
It was smaller than images on site quite in need of upgrading bath chipped mould around it
BUT the biggest flaw was the location I always request a quiet room as Im a very light sleeper this room was on the ground directly next to the outside dining area !!!I went to reception they said you had not passed on all my info and just said a quiet room was preferred if possible??? They changed the room this time bigger but again not what we have come to expect of a smart country hotel The offer from you for dinner was very generous 3 of us ordered the rib eye which was tough and grisley ! I didn't say anything as we were with friends and Id booked it on their behalf very embarrassing! We ordered G & Ts and shocked when served in a plain basic tumbler glass !! When asked we were told they'd run out of gin glasses?? It happens ,but when the same excuse was made the second night (my wife & I had booked an extra room direct from the hotel incidentally we ate in the town that night!) we ordered a different drink!!
The staff in the restaurant & on reception were very friendly & helpful but staff in the bar seemed a little jaded? We were testing out this hotel as our daughter lives close by but until we hear of changes we will be trying different hotels in the area
a pity as your deal was a vey good deal.

We say...

Thanks for your review.

It is disappointing to hear the stay did not meet your expectations.

When taking your booking, we stated that the request for a quiet room was a request and can't be guaranteed.  Hotels never guarantee a quiet room as they can't control the noise from outside due to the hotel potentially being busy.

We are pleased to hear the staff in the restaurant and on reception were very friendly & helpful.

Kind regards,

Country Hotel Breaks.

Location & Local Attractions

Whilst dogs are not allowed at Woburn Safari Park they are welcome at Woburn Deer Park (although this is temporarily closed until 2022). There are a number of walks around the beautiful countryside starting at the car park in Park Street. Some of the walks have passing views of Woburn Abbey and pass through the deer park. Put together by residents of Woburn each of the walks is a route marked with white arrows with the Woburn Walk logo. The walks vary in length from 3 to 9 miles depending on how active you and your dog feel! One recommended walk is the circular walk from Woburn to Eversholt - an 8-mile walk from the village. Also, a must-visit is the dog-friendly Shuttleworth Collection of vintage aircraft nearby.
