Excellent value in lovely setting
Very quirky hotel in great location. Beautiful gardens and comfortable public rooms. Theme is shabby chic and some features are more shabby than chic but thats the appeal. Room was large with masdive bed. Hot water tap in whb trickled and kept moving. Dinner was a good standard with excellent service. Breakfast was dissapointing- no mushrooms, bacon overcooked and sausage undercooked. We asked for no beans but got them anyway. The selection of gins are to die for. Staff are friendly and helpful.Overall excellent value and we really enjoyed our short stay.
Widbrook Grange stay
Enjoyed our 2 night stay overall. After slight mix up with booking we were upgraded to the quirky Sewing Room - lots of interesting furnishings - ample room and comfortable bed. This is a feature rook so shower fittings hanging off the wall and the architrave round the door to the bathroom looking like it had been broken and badly nailed back with cracked plaster very visible on are not a good look and could easily be corrected to improve the decor and overall utility of the room.
All the staff were extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. We used the swimming pool which although relatively small is perfectly adequate and an asset to the hotel which also has a few machines in a small gym.
Great walk up the Canal - go as far as you want and call back via Country park to Bradford on Avon.
Grounds of what was a farmhouse (Now extended to form the hotel) are well kept and nice to walk around.
No complaints about catering - breakfasts excellent and varied - I know some prefer a buffet but table service and chat with the staff we felt was far better and gave us much of the background to the Hotel and the area.
No issues with the standard of any of the cuisine,( which was mostly excellent) however felt the menu was restrictive in terms of choice of dishes and if we'd stayed longer this may have been an issue and the costs of the majority of the dishes appeared high (very) -despite the OPL deal).
Wine list although very extensive was very expensive even, in our opinion, for basic (although perfectly enjoyable) wine to the point where the price inflation is self defeating as it appeared to put the majority of guests off putting bottles of wine.
Should mention the bar which is widely stocked with many types of gin under the control of a very knowledgeable manager. 1st G&T in years which was wonderful after a long journey !
Overall ambience is largely based on quirky industrial type furnishings and lighting which we thought were great and imaginative.
Good communication through to Bath and surrounding area is beautiful but getting through Bradford on Avon by car is a pain and to be avoided if possible.
We would return but likely not in the short term if better value for money available elsewhere.
Great value and excellent food
Widbrook Grange is a lovely venue and the food was first class. The staff were really welcoming and the hotel had a comfortable atmosphere. We had an issue with our bedroom but we were offered another as soon as we complained which was helpful .We felt the rooms could have done with a bit more regular maintenance as there were several annoying little things which needed attention .We were lucky however to benefit from a deal which made our stay great value and we had a nice relaxing break.
