Very disappointing
The hotel is at best described as tired. Shabby and chic never do well when put together. Our room smelt of sewage, which when we reported the problem the receptionist said she would 'get someone to look at it again', implying this fault was already known about. The springs had gone in the mattress, so an uphill climb to the middle of the bed and a downwards roll out. My husband had to request clean cutlery twice in the same meal. A cocktail was served that had the wrong mix of ingredients. A full cooked breakfast came with dried out sausage, bacon and black pudding. The swimming pool's mosaic tiles were missing in places underfoot and the water so heavily chlorinated that I needed to use eye drops for the next 36 hours to offset the stinging! A 13 discount to cover the cocktail was given when we complained but that was it,
Rundown
This hotel is rundown. The outside area needs tidying and the stair carpet in the main entrance which greeted us when we arrived looked filthy!
Our cottage room was very nice and also clean with good quality duvets and lovely white sheets.
The dinner which our package had allowed a 30 pp allowance for was a big letdown. The main course alone had been ridiculously hiked to a value of 27 so not much left for a starter or desert.
The Hake I d ordered turned up floating in a plate of oil with mushy peas, cheap cod eggs and bits of vegetable- I wasn t able to eat this. 27 for a plate that would be better suited to a Joe s type of cafe for a fiver.
The complimentary gins we enjoyed so we ordered a second one. When paying the bill we were told the value of the complimentary ones was less than the ones we were paying for even though they were exactly the same drinks! Not sure how they could justify that calculation!
Basically the package is a ripoff and you end up paying far more than you bargained for.
Needless to say we won t be returning. What we d hoped would be a nice night away wasn t because of someone s greed!
Very underwhelming
The place felt a bit run down. The room we were given had the restaurant extractor fan right outside our room. It was very noisy. The shower/bath plug did not drain and the room was initially cold. When we complained about this the person didn t know how to respond - no apology etc. they did go to the room and adjusted the temperature.
The next day we told another person who tried her best to help. But they could fix the bath or change the noise.
I felt we had paid more than we usually pay for the room and it was disappointing.
The restaurant was ok. Nothing great. Portion sizes were not great.
Overall, our stay was ok. But I would not want to stay there again.
