7 Ways to Celebrate Love Your Pet Day

Following hot on the heels of Valentine’s… it’s Love Your Pet Day! – the annual occasion when pet owners can go a little further in demonstrating just how much they care for their dog.

Knowing exactly what will make a tail wag, we recommend eight ways to celebrate this date in the canine calendar to show a pet how much they are cared for.

1. Book into an award-winning hotel

With 15 winners to choose from, there’s petaways at the Most Instagrammable, Best for Walkies, Chicest Canine Stay, Best for Pet Perks and Best Gourmet Stay to name but a few. Away from the daily humdrum and with one-on-one time with their favourite human guaranteed, a four-legged break is just the ticket to express fondness to a furry friend. Explore our 2019 Award Winners here.

2. Indulge in a delicious shared menu

For dogs that are highly food-motivated, a shared dining experience is a definite pup-pleaser. Hotels such as The Egerton House Hotel in London’s Knightsbridge offer a Doggy Afternoon Tea alongside their standard human fayre, including dishes such as bowl licking chicken and beef meatloaf washed down with Pawsecco. Make a night of it with an overnight stay, so they can also sample the Pet Supper Menu then load up on the Pet Breakfast Menu before heading off for a long walk in one of the nearby Royal Parks.

3. Have some fun

Whether it’s a lively game of fetch in the garden or a curious game of hide-the-treat around the house, dogs simply love dedicated play time. Plus, it also encourages a pet to pay attention to commands. There’s plenty of four-legged fun to be enjoyed outside the home too such as agility – an obstacle course for dogs, which picks up pace and challenge when observed for time and accuracy. Patrons staying at The Fish Hotel in the Cotswolds can trial this activity at the onsite agility course, set within their picturesque grounds.

4. Throw a party

Honour the occasion with a get together with fellow dog lovers and their pups at a dog-friendly pub or bar. Kick off the meet up with a group walk, so the dogs have burnt off some steam and are chilled for hanging out with their favourite friends. Widbrook Grange in Wiltshire hosts actual dog parties at the Farmhouse, which indulges doggos with treats, pupcakes, Pawsecco, homemade biscuits, balloons, decorations and more!

5.  Spa together

Pack your bags and escape to the gorgeous Cotswolds countryside for some mutual R&R where you will both be pampered at The Lygon Arms, with the new ‘Nails & Tails’ package. You’ll get to use the hotel’s spa plus treatments, while your pup is whisked away for pampering including a full-body groom, blueberry facial, a spritz of Jean Paw Gaultier and more. They’ll also come back looking fancy in a complimentary bow or bandana.

6. Surprise them with a gift

If their top toy has lost its squeak, their bed is looking a bit dog-tired or they need a chic coat or sweater to see them through the cold snap, why not treat them to a doggy gift this Love Your Pet Day for something to enjoy long after the day has passed.

7. Donate to a pet charity

Whether it’s a rescue centre like The Mayhew or an assistance charity such as Support Dogs UK or Pets As Therapy, there are endless charities trying to make life better for pets and with pets, so paying forward is also a great way to celebrate LYPD! We donate a percentage of each travel booking to pet charities and have so far helped to raise over £68,000.
