In the morning, visit the nearby farm shops and award-winning convenience store, or take a day exploring the woods of Hesworth Common with your canine companion. For a village wander, nip into the charming village of Pulborough or wonderful towns like Petworth and Arundel for shops, attractions, and historic dog-friendly pubs.

White House, Cumbria

Resting on the cusp of the Lake District National Park, when on a dog friendly holiday at White House, you can enjoy stunning rural views over the region. Located in the heart of Keld, a quaint village near Shap, this charming two-bedroomed cottage is the ideal characterful abode for a family of four. With a pretty enclosed garden for your pup, homely interior and antique furniture, including a well-equipped kitchen, you’ll feel right at home as soon as you enter through the front door.

Be sure to stop by the remains of Shap Abbey whilst on your way to the national park to enjoy an afternoon of water sports with your family, or a nature-filled hike towards Aira Force Waterfall. Explorers and their adventurous hounds will be keen to tour the Rydal Cave and the Stock Ghyll Force – just remember to pack your walking boots! Wordsworth Grasmere, Allan Bank, and Grasmere Country House are also close by for the history buffs.

Pennsylvania Cottage at the Pheasant Inn, Cheshire

56 The Green, Richmond, North Yorkshire

Overlooking the village green in the idyllic Ravensworth is the charming 56 The Green, a traditional dales dog friendly cottage. Dating from the early 18th century, this lovely holiday cottage is built from stone from the nearby castle ruins! A fantastic choice for the whole family, 56 The Green invites you in with its plush seating, contemporary kitchen, and coal fire.

The three bedrooms are each furnished distinctively to a high standard. The master bedroom features a king-sized bed and solid oak furniture, as well as the second bedroom which has an addition of a chez lounge and an original 18th-century fireplace. As for the third bedroom on the property, this can be discovered tucked away in the oldest part of the house! It features roof beams salvaged from Ravensworth Castle and has two single beds – perfect for the kiddies.

When you’re not relaxing within your cosy new abode for the week, you can explore the ruins of the medieval castle, enjoy the array of walks on your doorstep, or visit the Richmond or Barnard Castle nearby for further historic adventures. Durham and York are also an easy drive away, along with the North York Moors and the Lake District.
