Beautiful Castle and location
We love this hotel and stay here when passing through or visiting the area. This was our third stay in the hotel and have been impressed with the beautiful courtyard rooms we have stayed in. Each room has been beautifully decorated with extra touches that make the stay welcoming. The main castle has a lot of original character. The food and service was excellent. Staff are very friendly and helpful
Fantastic Location, Lovely Attentive Staff, Excellent It's A Castle!
Lumley Castle is in a fantastic location, off the beaten track and offered a great opportunity to get away from the hectic day-to-day. It's ideally situated to visit the Beamish Museum as well as Newcastle. The dining experience was excellent, with fantastic quality food and a good selection of wine. The restaurant staff were very attentive and friendly. The castle itself is great fun to wonder around, with courtyards, flag stone turret steps and everything you'd expect from such a building. The rooms were very nice although the bathrooms (we stayed in the main castle suites) were a little tired in terms of water pressure, and shower etc. They were however clean and functional. Breakfast was very nice (we opted for cooked over continental).
Lumley was really enjoyable.
The thrill of staying 2 nights in a genuine 14th century castle was not to be missed. I remember thinking that it must be great to work in such a place and that led me to realise why all the staff were so good. I remember at breakfast my wife mentioned she d seen marmalade on the cereals table next door. I said that I was off to fetch some when a waitress overheard and said I ll get you some from the kitchen. The reception staff were also very attentive and helpful.
The castle is very rustic and adornments such as carpets and tapestries are a little threadbare looking. But believe me, that really adds to the authenticity of the place. The room which had a nice balance of history and contemporary atmosphere was the dining room - very cosy and comfortable. And the line caught stone bass was so good we both had it each evening.
We loved the place and would go back again. Some of our friends have been twice too.
We felt really well looked after.
Long Live Lumley !!
