A Great 3 Days

Peter S, Northamptonshire, stayed: August 2022

It was a wonderful 3 days, where the staff did everything to make this a welcoming and relaxing break. The service was careful and attentive, without being intrusive. There was clearly a great deal of effort that went into making everything near perfect, so that we could honestly say we had a wonderful time.

The only areas I would be slightly critical of was the room, very comfortable and well provided for, but it was very dark and needed some brighter lighting. The second was the food. One pasta meal I enjoyed so much I had it twice. The first time it was perfect, but the second time it was clearly reheated, pasta stuck together and other parts broken up into smaller pieces. Tasted good but poorly presented. More care needed. Despite that, I would stay there again.

Not a luxury stay.

DB, Lincolnshire, stayed: March 2022

We booked a castle state room for a special anniversary. The room was very dark and although nice, didn't live up to luxury tag. The first night we ate in the dining room, even with additional lighting, our table was so dark that my wife couldn't see to eat her meal adequately. So although the food was good, the experience was not. On the second night, after an argument, we were seated at a better lit table. The meal was delicious. The breakfast next morning was not so good. The grapefruit juice was watered down, the orange segments had obviously been left out too long and did not taste good. The "freshly baked pastry basket" was not freshly baked and there was no selection. The fried English contained only one each of sausage, bacon, mushroom, egg and hash brown. The sausage was not good quality and the hash brown was swimming in oil.The French toast was only just warm. The best part of the stay were the the staff. Everyone was friendly and extra helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Overall our 2 night stay was okay, but not luxurious and not worth the money. Put brighter bulbs in all of the lights.

SH, Staffordshire, stayed: October 2021

Lovely setting and building, overall everything was ok, rooms very tired, (courtyard room ground floor) understand it s a castle 600 years old but the rooms look like they could do with an major overall. Restaurant food was good but service was very slow at breakfast first day (second day was perfect but had mentioned delays on leaving day before). Staff were good but did look they were stretched, maybe the functions that were on caused under staffing in other areas. Would stay again
