Lumley Castle Hotel

Great location, friendly staff and fantastic food

We stayed for 3 nights in a courtyard stateroom (Family room). The room was fantastic and was well maintained and cleaned each day. The location was perfect for walks and trips to Durham and the Metro Centre. Plenty to do in the local area. All staff we encountered were very friendly and did everything possible to make sure we had a good time. The restaurant food was fantastic, although after three nights we felt as though more options would be beneficial. Having a nice salad on the menu would have been appreciated by this stage. The wine list was excellent although we found the drinks generally fairly expensive, but if you want luxury you have to accept this. A great stay and we will definitely have another short break here sometime soon.

Not as expected

Booking this for our uk honeymoon we expected excellence across the board. The room was nice. Comfortable bed, average seating area but overall clean. The hotel was pretty average nothing luxurious or exceptional which was disappointing. The restaurant was nicely laid out and the staff were helpful. Our dinner was very nice, dessert was delicious however the food was expensive so I expected all to be perfect. Breakfast was a non event for me as after waiting an hour for the hot offering it arrived cold and inedible, the reason was that there was a wedding party in for breakfast. I left without eating as I didn t want to wait any longer. So overall pretty disappointing and we wished we had chosen a different venue for our honeymoon. We went to Whitby for a few nights after and that was perfect.
