Staying at Lumley Castle, Durham

A very different two day stay., accommodation excellent, warm, very comfortable, attention to detail. A beautifully appointed room. The downside is having to walk across to the reception and then outside again to gain access to the dining room, No problem when it is fine weather, a different story when it rains !!. The paths could also be better lit, granted it is an ancient building, with walkways to match, but you have to watch your step. Dining room, a little too dark in the evening. Very pleasant, and helpful staff, nothing too much trouble.

Good Location

An excellent location for Durham, Beamish and the North East. Staff friendly and helpful. A lovely old castle with excellent facilities and restaurant. Food was excellent and the breakfast was exceptional. We will certainly stay again.

50th wedding anniversary gift

We received this stay as a gift. It was something we would never book for ourselves. The room was nice enough with all amenities however the beds were very soft and did not really suit us. The restaurant staff were lovely and attentive although the menu was quite limited. What we had was really nice and plentiful, we did not have any wines as they are very expensive. Breakfast again was plentiful and everything you would expect from this calibre of hotel. As well as the beds my only real complaint was that the courtyards were not lit well enough and were, in my opinion, quite dangerous in places as the old flagstones could be uneven for people, like me, with walking difficulties. All in all though quite an experience and a nice gift
