Well worth a try
This was a great experience. The room [a courtyard room] was a decent size and well fitted out. There was parking immediately outside the door which was great and not too far from the reception or dining room. There was a welcome bottle of bubbly and box of chocolates [this may not be in all the rooms] as we booked a premium room.
The staff were very well presented, professional and courteous to all the guests, nothing was too much trouble.
The food was excellent, we had the sirloin steak and feather of beef [I can recommend the feather of beef]. Much of the wine however, was a bit pricy compared with the food.
There are one or two disabled rooms but not many [check before you book], however, the access to the castle is limited which means that unless you are partially mobile you will miss out ona lot of interesting aspects of the castle. There is disabled access to the dining room, again you have to ask where it is as it's not well signposted
Romantic castle setting with lovely staff
We had a great stay at Lumley Castle: the setting was very romantic, the room was luxuriously comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The grounds and surrounding areas were lovely, well worth a stroll around in spite of the freezing weather.
Only 2 bad points: they had forgotten to check us in for breakfast on the second day (this was quickly rectified by the restaurant staff); and some discounts had not been applied to our bill, which again was corrected when I noticed it.
Very noisy unable to sleep
This place is so beautiful. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous. The staff are absolutely fantastic. Only things that spoilt it are that there are so many tables crammed into the restaurant that we were unable to have our beautiful food carved at the table which is part of the experience. The room was very noisy with wedding part to the side and above up and we were unable to sleep. Something was banging in the wind all night on our window, the window was also broken. Not what I would of expected.
