Best Western Hotel near Dartmouth, Devon
Great location for the park and ride into Dartmouth, this is paid for via ringo app or cash. Hotel accommodation of a very good standard, evening meal poor, would recommend you use this hotel for B&B and eat out in Dartmouth.
Missed opportunity
The location of hotel is superb, beautiful countryside. Our room was exceptionally clean with a nice view. Bed was comfortable although a little on firm side, pillows were very uncomfortable.Bathroom with a shower was excellent , even had a shower mat which was reassuring.
Breakfast was very good with a wide selection of food. In the bar/restaurant there were tables outside on balcony which was lovely in the sunny weather, but they were not regularly cleaned, pity.
There was not a great selection on the menu, and that was not very inspiring.I had a meat pie, which surprisingly had lots of meat in it.That was as good as it got, my peas were uncooked.you are better off eating out which is a pity, could be so much better.
All in all we had an enjoyable stay but, could have been so much better.
mixed feelings
When arriving at the spa, we were told we should have robes and flip flops complimentary with the room. after going back to the room to check, no robes, no flip flops, and returning to the spa, the nice lady said oh! well i guess you do have to pay for them? so had to pay 12 for robes that we had to return and we were only staying one night!
the restaurant we were meant to have a free meal. now the menu did state that some courses would have a supplemental charge. we were meant to get two courses each for the two of us. we decided to get the sharing starter, which had an extra charge of 15. when we came to order dessert, we were told that the one starter we had, which we paid an extra 15 for, actually counted as 2 courses, and so we couldn t get a dessert. the starter itself was just a mountain of fried chicken, absolutely slathered in barbecue sauce so thick you could barely stomach one mouthful. for the mains we had carbonara and pork belly (+ an extra 6). the carbonara was made with cream and white whine, rather than the traditional egg and parmesan or pecorino, and tasted like water. the pork belly, which was supposedly slow cooked for 16 hours, was chewier than anything and also tasted like water. it was served with a couple of crappy new potatoes and some broccoli. this ruined my day.
however, the staff were all lovely, very welcoming and polite, and i tried very hard not to let it show how terrible the food was and how outraged i was that i was tricked into spending an extra 20 odd on the worst meal of my life that was meant to be free.
but, i digress, the staff were amazing, the hotel was immaculate, the grounds were beautiful, and the spa and facilities were lovely. although the gym was the size of a walk in wardrobe, the cold shower was broken, and the jacuzzi had a weird layer of foam on the top of the water, even when the bubbles were off. apart from that, it was great! i would stay here again, only if i was homeless. my dog could cook a better meal. this is an honest review. i ve never written a review before, and i despise people who unnecessarily give bad reviews. but this was just not good enough, and i had literally zero expectations.
