Overview

A Grade II listed hotel, dog-friendly Barnett Hill in Surrey offers luxury bedrooms, exquisite views and fabulous walks from your doorstep. The property was once nothing more than a wooded hilltop, which offered impressive views across the Surrey hills. The stunning location originally caught the eye of Frank Cook, grandson of renowned travel agent Thomas Cook, who, in 1905, constructed the Queen Anne-style mansion as a family home. Having been recently transformed, the hotel's interior has been beautifully modernised but still retains many of its original features, including the gorgeous summer house and tea house. Just a seven-minute walk to the Blackheath Common side of the glorious Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Barnett Hill offers a fantastic place of relaxation and a wonderful base from which to explore the surrounding area with your canine companion.

Poor Service in Hotel Restaurant & Room issues

Anon, stayed: July 2024

First room TV didn't work properly, reallocated a new room. Not as nice as original room.
Restaurant, not shown to table, had to move due to wobbly table. Waitress service was astonishingly poor-.incorrect wine, plonked on table, no ice bucket, no tasting option, told no other Sauvignon Blanc when there was, no bread roll offered, only filled water once, identified main course and then served to wrong person, i.e. beef as lamb, unproportionate delay in offering desert. Laughable! Chef is being let down as food is very good.
Following morning tried to have shower, no hot water, tried to get it to work, realised design fault, water was flooding the bathroom floor. Guest downstairs came up to say water coming through ceiling. Breakfast was a poor selection, croissants not refilled, scrambled egg not consumable.
When checking out, we informed reception of shower issue and she took note but did not offer any form of apology or get the manager to speak to ask.

Anniversary stay

DB, Kent, stayed: September 2023

We had a wonderful stay. We were fortunate to get a free upgrade to a junior suite which was so nice and the bathroom was huge and all of the suite was spotless. We had a very nice afternoon tea the day of our stay and a lovely meal in the restaurant that evening. The staff worked very hard and couldn t do enough for you. Nothing was a problem. Would definitely recommend to friends and family and would stay again in the future.

  • Would stay here again

The price of a very average/insipid gin and tonic at over 17 is extortionate and that alone would put us off ever staying at your hotel again.
