Staff were good
My only real criticism was that it was very hot when we stayed and that just wasn t catered for. We had a room that had window with one small opening and nothing else. No aircon and I had to ask for a fan which turned out to be small and useless. I know we don t get a lot of hot weather but that meant I hardly slept for 3 days. Other than that it was a good stay.
A bit disappointing
We had basic rooms so I am sure this review would have been better if we had been able to upgrade. I do understand though that with a last minute booking this was not possible. We were there for 4 nights. The rooms were really hot and stuffy, with tiny top opening windows, covered by Roman blinds (which I had to take down to get any air in). I think this really needs addressing.
The bar staff were not very attentive, so we walked to the village pub most days, and the public areas were not cleaned at all throughout the duration of our stay. There was litter on the floors, paint spots, a messy and unwelcoming reception area. I think that it did not do Off Peak Luxury a service as you usually have great places to stay, but this one is a beautiful building turned into a Travel Lodge - silk purse to sow's ear came to mind, and that is such a shame as it could be such a grand, beautiful place.
Didn t feel like a country house hotel
Mixed feelings here. Probably a mistake to have asked for a quiet room. Given one as far away from the restaurant and bar as possible. Which would have been fine if not for the noisy extractor unit situated above our ceiling drumming away all night. Apparently it should have been switched off at 9pm but this didn t happen on the next night either. So if you re offered a room number above 212 - don t take it!!
The room itself was fine although the bathroom rather tatty. Shower good and powerful but quite slippery getting in and out of the bath, so would have concerns for anyone not too steady on their feet,
Couldn t fault the food, especially the well-cooked full breakfast. Also the staff, especially the younger ones, were very polite and friendly and did their best to be as helpful as possible.
